Hello. My name is Donna Scram. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up going to Catholic School from the first through the eighth grade. My family went to mass on Sunday mornings. It was a must even though I thought it was boring. When I was around 15 years old, I stopped going to church. At the age of 23, I was married and had a big Catholic wedding. We lived in Baltimore city but I got a job in Owings Mills so we moved there. Soon after we moved, a man came to our door one day while I was at work. He introduced himself to my husband as Rev. Charles Curry and said he and his family had moved here from Louisiana to start a church. He asked if he could teach my husband and I a Bible Study on Tuesday evenings. Tuesday came however, and my husband decided he didn't want to go. I wouldn't go without him, so when Rev. Curry came, we just didn't answer the door. We did this for about six weeks. He would talk to us on Saturdays and we'd say we wanted to go, then he would come to get us on Tuesday and we would decide not to go.
On day while I was at work, I got the news that a lot of people at my job were being laid off at the end of the week and I was one of them. Money was tight at that time because my husband was receiving unemployment and now I would also be unemployed. I didn't know how we were going to make it. I went home to share the news with my husband but he was not home, so I sat crying and felt like my whole world was caving in on me. I suddenly remembered it was Tuesday, and quickly called the pastor and told him to come and get me for the Bible Study as I was definitely going. When we got to his house he introduced me to his wife and children. I was kind of nervous while we waited for some other people that were suppose to be coming, to arrive. However no one else came and he said "Donna, I think God just wanted you to be here tonight." He then asked if we could just pray. His wife sat next to me and they both started praying. I immediately started crying as I began to feel things stirring within me that I'd never felt before. He asked me to repent of my sins and I did. I kept praying and asking God to help me and as I did I began giving Him thanks for what He was doing. As I did, I suddenly began saying words that I did not understand. Pastor Curry told me that this was the Holy Ghost and that I had received God's spirit in me and the evidence of that was that I was speaking in an unknown tongue. I felt so peaceful and happy. My personal situation had not changed but I was a peace over it. I knew that greater is He that was now in me than anything in this world.
That was twenty years ago and I still feel that peace when I talk to God. I have two teenagers now that have been filled with God's spirit also and I want you to know that you can be too. God said in the Bible in Acts chapter 2, verse 39 "For the promise is unto you and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." The promise is that He shall fill all that ask with the Holy Ghost!
