implementation and history

The "new" Christian Revival Center web site, as uploaded on April of the year 2000 was conceived, designed, and implemented by Christopher Sean Morrison (hereafter referred to as csm). The web site design was offered by csm as an uncharged (i.e. free) service to the church as a kind of service tithe. Some people are good at singing, some at talking, some at dealing with people, others have their own talents. csm is good at computers. This includes (though not limited to) web site design. Thus, he decided to offer his time and skill to provide a well designed, elegant, and attractive web site for the Christian Revival Center church.

will he [insert computer related topic here] for me/us?

Although csm wishes he had the time and money to do anything and everything for everyone, he does not. As is often the case, time is money and the bills have to get paid. Thus, csm isn't really in a position to offer free or discount web site design, or other computer related services, at this time to anyone else. This site was done for the Christian Revival Center out of a desire to do something for my church, a respect for what it means in my life, and a responsibilty to do what I can to facilitate the spreading of the Gospel by whatever means we have available to us.

If you or your respective organization are interested in web design services (or other computer-related consultation), please contact csm to set up a meeting. csm professionally designs and implements high-end or high-quality web sites such as this one on a continual basis and presently is willing to accept new projects.

The range of projects accepted are extremely broad, including small personal sites to full e-commerce solutions. The rates, of course, vary from project to project, depending on the requirements and time involvement (among other factors), but are *much* less than the industry standard price for the caliber of web site delivered. Exact figures (not estimates) may be provided before work begins, though, and a variety of payment plans are also available.

graphics

All of the graphics, save the few buttons on the site info page, were hand designed or, in the case of personal photos (see people section), were hand touched up or modified by csm. For the most part, at least to recollection, the graphics were all designed using Photoshop v5.0.2.

html and other code

All of the code and other bytes of text for this web site were implemented by hand. No horrible wysiwyg html editors were used (nor would they have worked) to harm any portion of this site or it's design. If you are interested in learning html yourself, I recommend doing it by hand in a text editor. Frontpage is *not* a text editor, nor is Microsoft Word (i.e. a word processor is not a text editor). This entire site was done completely using the EMACS editor.

site foundation and layout

The site utilizes the powerful features of PHP throughout the site design. PHP allows the entire site to be dynamic and very easily modified. The entire layout of the header, side menu, and footer are all dynamically generated based on prior selection and location in the web site. Custom elements such as the header image, the mute sound menu images, and the last modified information are all also provided dynamically with dependancies on site state. Since the site design required the inclusion of music, two "parallel" sites are delivered to the user to allow them to traverse a "music-enabled" or "music-disabled" site based on personal preference.

Other than PHP, the site involves javascripting, stylesheets, and html v4. Javascripting is used for the left menu that appears after the site index page. Three states are given for the three actions of `mouseover', `mousedown', and a rest state (`mouseout'). Stylesheets are used to define a variety of site element appearance including the CRC word appearance as well as all text and links displayed. Thus, changing the general appearance of a common site element (such as links) are centralized to the stylesheet definition of that element. Finally, all of the code that is not PHP, javascripting, or stylesheet is, of course, html code. The site is purportedly html v4 compliant with perhaps a few minor aberrations that slipped by. If you find any, let csm know about them.

license info and copyright

As stated on the siteinfo page, all of the PHP source and html output of the site are under license and copyright. The PHP source is under the GPL source and the html is copyrighted. If anyone knows how or why a copyright may interfere or violate the terms of the GPL in this situation, or viceversa, please let me know since I'm not 100% positive. ;)

that's it!

That's about all there is to say about the design of the Christian Revival Center web site. If you have any questions or comments now or in the future about this site, please contact csm. Other than that, get away from your computer and go exercise. Also go to church next Sunday. You'll be rewarded greatly by both in the long run... Enjoy and God bless.
